PR: Michael Torrey Associates Expands Team
Barbara Patterson Joins Firm as Director of Government Relations; Marissa Dake as Administrative Assistant
Michael Torrey Associates (MTA) welcomed Barbara Patterson and Marissa Dake to its growing team in February 2018. The Washington, D.C.-based firm offers effective government relations, strategic communications and issue advocacy and full-service association management to a growing number of clients in the food, agriculture, and forestry sector.
“Barbara and Marissa are joining us at a critical time for agriculture in Washington, D.C. I’m excited to have them on board so we can continue to expand our services as advocacy continues to evolve,” said Michael Torrey. “I know they have the same passion to win for our clients that MTA is known for.”
As Director of Government Affairs, Barbara will provide guidance and representation to clients on an ever-expanding array of agriculture and food policy issues. Most recently, she served as Government Relations Director at the National Farmers Union. While at NFU she advocated on behalf of farmers and rural communities before Congress and the Administration, covering a broad portfolio including trade, nutrition, and food safety.
Patterson also managed a cooperative agreement with the Food and Drug Administration to provide education and outreach to local food producers and processors on food safety and the Food Safety Modernization Act. A Michigan native, Patterson is a University of Michigan alum and also earned a Master’s degree in Ag and Nutrition Policy from Tufts University.
Marissa is a 2017 graduate of Washburn University and a Kansas native. She has served in administrative roles for Senator Jerry Moran and has managed leadership programs and events with Doxazo Ministries and the Washburn University Leadership Institute. She will work closely with the entire MTA team to support a variety of client projects.
Like others on the MTA team, Barbara and Marissa’s roots are in rural America, bolstering the unique perspective and real-world understanding of agriculture that the firm provides. MTA also continues to expand the firm’s capabilities and offerings to clients. In addition to government relations, issues management and association management, MTA also offers strategic communications counsel, issue advocacy and stakeholder identification and engagement guidance.
