Naessens Joins Ag Lobbying Firm

Michael Torrey Associates (MTA) welcomes Katie Naessens to the policy team. The Washington, D.C.-based firm offers effective government relations, strategic communications and issue advocacy as well as full-service association management to a growing number of clients in the food, agriculture, and forestry sector.

Katie serves as Vice President for Michael Torrey Associates, where she provides clients with guidance on a wide range of legislative and regulatory issues impacting the food and agriculture sector. Prior to joining MTA, Katie served as Senior Professional Staff for the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry under Senator Debbie Stabenow. 

Naessens previously worked at the U.S. Department of Agriculture for Secretary Tom Vilsack, serving in a variety of roles in the Office of Food Safety, Marketing and Regulatory Programs, and the Office of the Secretary. She also worked on Obama’s presidential campaign as Deputy Regional Field Director.

Her experience in agricultural innovation, sustainability, and food systems will bring a unique and beneficial perspective to the team and provide immense value to our clients,” said firm principal Michael Torrey.

A Minnesota native, Katie earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
