As Executive Vice President for the Torrey Advisory Group, Tara Smith leads a team of talented advocacy experts. Tara brings value to clients through her experience in both the public and private sector, with time spent working for Monsanto, the American Farm Bureau Federation and the Senate Agriculture Committee during a critical revamping of the farm safety net. With more than 25 years of work in the policy world, her understanding of the everchanging and evolving complexities of the political and stakeholder landscapes gives her a unique ability to advise clients in developing strategic partnership and action plans for success.
As a proud farm kid from Illinois, the success of farmers and ranchers across the country is personal. Her roots in the industry allow Tara to have a unique understanding of the challenges faced by rural America, which fuels her determination to think creatively about how to develop policy solutions that contribute to a thriving rural economy.
She has a bachelor’s degree from Davidson College in political science and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan. She resides in Washington, D.C. with her husband, her fox red lab, Mango, and a kitten that thinks she’s a dog, Jumbie.
