Big Picture Overview
Congress
The Senate and House are both in session this week following the Thanksgiving holiday. As the Dec. 16 funding deadline approaches, Congress’ top priority for the lame-duck session will be the passage of the FY2023 Omnibus. Other priorities include passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and the Marriage Equality Act. On top of that, Congress will likely have to intervene with a legislative fix for rail worker contracts to avoid a strike starting on Dec. 9.
USDA
USDA is launching the 2022 Census of Agriculture. Survey codes have been mailed to U.S. farmers and ranchers with sales of at least $1,000 in agricultural products. Paper copies will be mailed in December. The deadline for completed surveys is Feb. 6. The census is completed every five years, and results for 2022 are set to be released in early 2024.
